BIOGRAPHY

Based in south-east England, I divide my time equally as a composer, arranger and pianist in a career spanning over 30 years.

As a pianist and accompanist I work with singers and instrumentalists at all levels playing for rehearsals, concerts, shows and cabaret performances throughout London and the south-east. I have experience in a wide range of genres include opera, classical, musical theatre, cabaret, popular music, jazz and Ragtime. Through my love of Ragtime I run an 11-piece Ragtime Band, Elite Syncopations, with the aim of bringing this wonderfully evocative music to a wider public.

 

Since 1994 I have been composer and musical director for Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre, writing the scores for at least 20 shows and working on over 70 productions. Over the years I have been lucky enough to have had several of these musicals published and subsequently performed by schools and youth theatre groups around the world.

Other compositions for theatre include the recent UK tour of David Baddiel’s AniMalcolm and tours of Arabian Nights and The Nutcracker (Story Pocket Theatre); Treasure Island (Leicester Haymarket) co-written with Sandi and Jenifer Toksvig; The Railway Children (Yvonne Arnaud Theatre / Watercress Line & Didcot Steam Museum); Just So Stories (Apollo Theatre Company); Puss in Space, Macladdin and Bob & the Beanstalk (Hotbuckle Productions).

My choral compositions include the full length oratorio Re:Creation, which had its professional London premiere at St John's, Smith Square in 2009 and two commissions from the Hillingdon Borough Council: Flying: an aerodynamic cantata, commissioned in association with the RAF and The Many and the Few - new songs for a documentary celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain - delayed until 2021 due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

As an arranger, I have worked for Faber Music, Oxford University Press, Novello & Co, Southern Percussion, the legendary rock band Jethro Tull, plus over a hundred musicians, vocalists, orchestras, bands and composers.
